Thanks to his efforts, families reunited with their loved ones, including pets that had been separated from their owners during the chaos of the hurricane. Matos’s commitment to serving his community and making a difference in the lives of those around him was strengthened by his experiences. He was deeply grateful for the recognition that the nomination brought to the importance of search and rescue efforts in times of crisis.

The Rotary Club of Naples bestowed Mark Matos with the title of Paul Harris Fellow in March 2016. The recognition is given to individuals who contribute, or have contributions made in their name, of US$1,000 or more to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. The Rotary Foundation Fellowships for Advanced Study was the sole program of the Foundation when the recognition was established in 1957. The award was created to demonstrate gratitude for and inspire significant contributions to the program, ultimately becoming the Ambassadorial Scholarship.

The Naples Daily News and Community Foundation of Collier County recognize the Rotary Club of Naples and Mark Matos for their exceptional contributions to the community. The Community Foundation of Collier County and Naples Daily news presented the award during the annual Celebration of Philanthropy on February 18th, 2015, at the Naples Beach Hotel. This international honor society serves business programs accredited by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
